Butterfly valves provide single direction, bi-directional, or dead-end service in pipes. If you're searching for butterfly valves for, commercial and industrial applications, F.W. Webb has the product you need.
Similar in operation to a ball valve, butterfly valves allow quick shut off using a quarter turn of the handle or mechanical actuator to close the valve. The closing mechanism is a disc or wafer (butterfly) that rotates within the center of the valve pipe. A rod passing through the disc or 2 smaller rods on the top and bottom of the disc connect to a lever handle, wheel handle, or mechanical actuator mounted on the top of the valve. Rotating the handle or utilizing the mechanical actuator will turn the disc either parallel or perpendicular to the flow. Since the disc is always present within the flow, it will induce a pressure drop even when in the open position.
Zero-offset butterfly valves are designed for systems with the lowest pressure rating. For higher pressure applications, a double offset or triple offset valve is used. The universal rule to determine if your valve is opened or closed with a basic lever handle, is if the handle is switched 90 degrees to the flow, it is turned off. The valve is on if the handle is in line with the with the flow path. Using a wheel handle or mechanical actuator the open and closed indication will depend on installation specifications and needs of the operator.
Butterfly valves vary in the construction of the valve body. There are a few kinds of butterfly valves, but they fall into two main types: lug and wafer valves. A wafer style is held between two pipe flanges by the pressure of the bolts going from one flange to the other squeezing the valve in place, no bolts pass through a wafer body. A lug or lugged style is held in place between two pipe flanges by bolts joining the two flanges and passing through matching bolt holes in the valve's outer casing. They are also available with conventional flanged ends, grooved ends, or with threaded end construction.
Butterfly valves offer a tight shut-off and are economical and high-performance. We offer a broad range of sizes, types, and lead-free materials including aluminum, bronze, ductile iron, carbon steel, different grades of stainless steel, and PVC. You'll find lug, wafer, high-performance, grooved, and flanged types, a range of handle styles, and brands.
Our valves are offered at a reasonable price while maintaining their outstanding quality. They are sturdy, pressure resistant, reliable and last a long time with high-performance. The main problems that butterfly valves face are directly associated with poor installation. Having your butterfly valve installed properly is essential for proper functioning.
